Highlights of A Busy 2 weeks

Linda Robertson spent the last two weeks actively listening to the concerns of Illinois House District 65. Here are some of the highlights:

Legislative Breakfast:  On April 25th, Linda attended the Legislative Breakfast for Raising Illinois at Harper College.  This early childhood advocacy group focuses on the importance of the first three years of a child’s life.  They are committed to laying the foundation for all Illinois children to have a strong start in schools and life. Linda believes we must strongly support early childhood development.

On the Bridge: On Saturday, April 27th, Linda joined We Can Lead Change and other volunteers on the East State Street Bridge in Geneva rallying to support immigration reform and compassion.

Fundraiser:  Linda’s fundraiser on April 29th celebrated Earth Month. Linda spoke about the importance of acting now to make the planet whole again.  She noted that good governmental regulations on water discharge and safety will be essential.  We also need to accelerate the switch to renewable energy to reduce CO2 levels.  In addition, she promoted action at the individual level such as maximizing insulation in your home, adding clover to your lawns and planting drought tolerant crops.

Talking to Students: On April 26th, Linda visited Mr. Rivard’s Political Science class at Elmhurst University. Linda discussed her career, why she is running for office and what she wants to do if elected.  She encouraged students to participate in democracy and answered student questions. May 4 Kane County Recycle Event

Recycling Event: Linda joined the volunteers at the annual Kane County Recycles event on May 4th from 8am to noon. They helped collect documents for shredding, clothing, textiles and small home goods as well as liquid latex paint, aerosols, child car seats and small propane tanks. It was lots of hard work, but Linda and volunteers were happy to see the enthusiastic commitment of Kane County residents to recycling.

Climate Action organized by the IEC – the Illinois Environmental Council.  She will attempt to meet with Senator DeWitte and Rep Dan Ugaste to encourage them to commit to fighting climate change. More to follow…
