Today, June 24th, we mark the 2nd anniversary of the Dobbs Decision stating the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. By delegating the authority to regulate abortion to the states, Dobbs empowered many states to enact rigid abortion restrictions that prioritize the life of the embryo over the health and life of the mother. Refusing to provide medically necessary abortions can destroy a woman’s fertility or life. The beliefs of politicians are restricting the freedoms of women and are superseding evidence-based medicine.
Now our right to access birth control and IVF are threatened. I believe that reproductive health care decisions should be made between a patient and a doctor, not politicians. Protecting women requires electing experts who understand the issues and can reach across the political divide.
We must defend the importance of maintaining a woman’s right to make health care choices for her own body.
